The Martian - Andy Weir (Rollerrrrrrr Coaaaasssstteerrrr!!!!!)

Image
Book Name : The Martian Author : Andy Weir Pages : 300 Plus How long it took me to read : 4 days Plot Summary :   This book is about Mark Watney (Played by Matt Damon - Yes Jason Bourne from the Bourne Series). He is an astronaut who is on a mission to Mars. He is a botanist, engineer and quite the jack of all trades. However, he gets left behind in Mars by his crew because of an accident that happens. The crew thinks he is dead and leave him behind and begin their journey back to earth. However Watney is not dead. The rest of the book is about how NASA and his crew mates battle the impossible to get him back and how the rest of the world wait for his return with baited breath. Did I forget to mention that Watney stays back in Mars for almost a year and half and manages to survive? I won't say anything much more than that because you can read the book and there is nothing much to say...errr....I mean...the many different ways he survives all of the impossible sit...

The book of tomorrow - Cecelia Ahern

Image
This is my first book by Cecelia. I know that she is also the author of P.S I love you, but I have never read the book, just watched the movie (At that time I had a crush on Gerald Butler....he he he...At this rate I will know of books just because they have been made into movies with hot heroes). I liked the movie and cried buckets, but it never interested me enough to go and pick the book up. I came across this one because it was suggested to me by my library reading list and the blurb looked quite interesting. But after that I came across other interesting things to read and this book took a back seat. I recently finished reading it though and I liked it. It's not my all time favorite, but it did not make me feel like I totally wasted my time or money. This book has been marketed as a YA fiction. I am not really sure of the YA tag, because, it has a bit of obscene talk coming out of mouths of 16 year old children, but then again, maybe that is how this "generation...

The Unwritten (Vol 1 to 10) - Very confusing

This is going to be a review of my first ever graphic novel. I did read Superman/Spiderman a long time ago when I was in Kuwait (I think!!!!). I do not remember where I got those from but I am not able to find them now. Hmmmm....I am not a really big fan of graphic novels. I did come across them during my bookshop browsing's but I just found them to be too expensively priced in India. Rs 700 + for a graphic novel???. They do have the silky, nice soft glossy paper (which is very nice to read when there is sunlight on them - I read most of The Unwritten next to a window...) and all of that but I rather buy a proper paperback or maybe 2-3 for the same amount. Anyway I am out of "smarty ass" things to say, so let's just get to it. This set of books (From Vol 1 - Vol 10) were loaned to me by one of my friends. (Why did she do that ....That is another story which is under wraps for now....yeah I know nobody reads my blog, except for my long suffering husband... but anywa...

Accident - Danielle Steele - Picked up the book by Accident (pun intended!!!!!)

Image
Before I started with this book I did read a couple of reviews. I've had mixed relationships with the books that are written by Danielle. While some of them I loved (in fact, they made me cry) there are some that I just hated. It was like she had written them in her sleep or that she had been given an advance by the publishing house and had to justify the same . It's a shame sometimes, because writing is a difficult job. Some say it takes a bit of your soul, but then some books come along that make you think that all of the "soul" part is just pop psychology told by bad writers to justify their bad writing.  I generally do not pick up Danielle Steel books (I have just one book called Big Girl which I own that I bought at a book sale for very cheap, but have not picked up till date) and I do not remember selecting this book to be a part of my reading list. But for some reason (I fail to figure out the reason even in the scheme of big things), my library thought...

Harry Potter - Reloaded!!!

A week ago there was huge excitement on Twitter after J.K Rowling published a tweet which said that James Potter is in the Kings Cross Station waiting to board the Hogwart's Express. Now this is Harry Potter's son and it means that we are going to get a sequel (Yayyyy!!!!). Ok, I have a admission to make here. I never read the Harry Potter series ever. I just own the last book in the series (which is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for the uninitiated). I bought this book quite a long time ago, honestly I do not even recall when. But I never got to reading it. I reasoned that I had to read the rest of the series to even begin the last book. I made half-hearted attempts to get the rest of books. The book I had used to glare at me accusingly from the bookshelf, but I used to smile at it sheepishly and say I am trying to read the others, can you like please wait (I do that, I am not mental or anything, I just like talking to books.....errr...Whatever...Don't judge me) ...

Memory Man - David Baldacci - Unimpressed!!!!!

Image
This is the third book of David Baldacci that I have read. The other two books were from the Camel Club series. I fail to recall the names but I do know I Ioved them. When this book was released I wanted to read it. The book is a fast read, but there are some medical conditions that the protagonist suffers from which slows down the reading a bit. I at least found it a bit difficult to understand the condition completely. I knew what it was doing to him, but there were some aspects that were not clear. This books introduces us to "Amos Decker". Like the Camel Club, this is going to be a series (I think).Though this is a book that I did not really like if this is going to be a series I hope the rest of it will be good and enjoyable. This is the story of Amos Decker (obviously). He is a big towering guy who was a very promising football player. Unfortunately an injury in the field puts a stop to his career even before it has a chance to take off. Because it i...

The Ninth Life of Louis Drax (Book Review) - Good Read

Image
To be really honest I did not know that this book existed and I am not really surprised why. In ordinary circumstances, like say, I had come across this book in a bookstore, I might not have picked it up, unless of course it had a great discount or an attractive cover maybe. I would have thought "ennnn not my kind of book". So why you might ask did I even pick this up.  Well the answer is "Drum roooolllll" Jamie Dornan (Hearts, flowers, Swoon and I am back....I could not resist the picture). I knew Jamie Dornan from "The fall" which I started watching because of Gillian Anderson(the X-files for the people who live in the rocks). I fell in love with Jamie and the character. I know that makes me a psycho because he plays the bad guy. But I think the thin line that ...

"iiSuperWomanii" - Burnt out or too tired.....

I am sure all of us have heard of Superwoman. For the uninitiated (Where are you living guys???) she is a YouTube phenomenon who has taken the world by storm. She has hordes of crazy fans from USA to Timbuktu. She is based out of Toronto, Canada. She goes by the name of Lilly Singh and yes she is Indian. I came across her vlogs around 6 months back. I have goggled about her obsessively and wait for her videos to go online on YouTube. In fact Sharukh Khans daughter is a big fan of hers and he actually gave her a jacket which he wanted her to use for a show/video. Sadly she is not a big SRK fan (Can't imagine why)I would have died. Moving on.... I really love all of her vidoes especially the "types of" series that she puts on her channel. I am not a big fan of her "My parents react to this" series. If you are still reading this and have failed to go to YouTube then please do so. I would advise that you go watch her videos and come back else this might just go...
